Yastika Bhatia’s Absence Jolts India Ahead of 2025 Women’s World Cup

India Faces Challenge as Yastika Bhatia Misses 2025 Women's World Cup Run-Up

India’s international player, Yastika Bhatia, has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at home, as announced by the BCCI on Thursday.

“Yastika Bhatia sustained an injury to her left knee during India’s preparatory camp in Vizag,” stated the BCCI. “The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring her progress, and the team wishes Yastika a speedy recovery.”

Yastika, a 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, was included in the World Cup squad following impressive scores of 59, 66, and 42, which contributed to India A’s victory in a three-match unofficial One-Day series against Australia A.

Uma Chetry, who has played in seven T20Is, has been named as her replacement.

“Uma Chetry is now part of the India squad for both the Australia series and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Consequently, she will no longer be with the India A squad, which has a warm-up match scheduled during the World Cup,” added the BCCI.

India is set to host Australia in a three-match ODI series starting September 14 in Mullanpur. The Women in Blue will then participate in two World Cup warm-up matches in Bengaluru before facing co-hosts Sri Lanka in the tournament opener in Guwahati on September 30.
