WPL Revolutionizes Standards Ahead of Women’s World Cup 2025, Reveals India’s S&C Coach A.I. Harrsha

WPL Sets New Benchmarks as S&C Coach A.I. Harrsha Previews 2025 Women's World Cup

A.I. Harrsha has become somewhat of a lucky mascot for Indian cricket, witnessing pivotal victories such as the Indian men’s team’s gold at the Asian Games, the Under-19 World Cup triumph, and now, the historic win by the Indian women’s team at their maiden Women’s World Cup. For Harrsha, the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, this achievement signifies much more than a victory; it represents a turning point highlighting the team’s exceptional skill, athleticism, and determination throughout the tournament.

“It’s challenging to sustain such demanding workloads over a long World Cup campaign,” Harrsha shared with Sportstar upon returning home to Hyderabad.

Harrsha, a former Hyderabad Ranji Trophy cricketer, has vast experience from his tenure with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Indian men’s team. He credits the success to a comprehensive effort, starting with a pre-World Cup camp organized by the BCCI, focusing on performance training tailored to individual players and emphasizing recovery.

Throughout the tournament, technology and data were pivotal in tracking players’ training loads, recovery, and individual needs. Harrsha praised the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for elevating the standards and professionalism in women’s cricket, similar to the influence of the IPL on the men’s game.

Reflecting on the team’s resilience, especially after early-stage losses, Harrsha emphasized the team’s ability to rise stronger, attributing this to their discipline and collective effort. His straightforward message to the players was: “It’s you versus you.”

Harrsha outlined three key principles for the team: clear objectives, effective communication, and an excellence mindset, which drove their success. He also acknowledged head coach Amol Muzumdar’s leadership in fostering a collaborative environment.

He credited his family’s support, especially his wife Udhvithaa, for managing responsibilities at home, allowing him to focus entirely on the campaign. A memorable moment post-victory was meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, further cementing this triumph as a career highlight.

“The lows in professional sports make the highs even more rewarding,” Harrsha remarked, cherishing this World Cup win as a peak moment in his career.
