Washington’s Side Strain Sidelines Him from NZ T20Is, World Cup Participation in Doubt

Washington's Injury Casts Doubt on World Cup and NZ T20I Series Participation

India’s all-rounder, Washington Sundar, has been sidelined from the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand due to a side strain. The series is set to commence next Wednesday.

During the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday, Washington experienced discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling. This injury also led to his exclusion from the three-match ODI series. Reports indicate that the 26-year-old will not recover in time to participate in the T20 series starting in Nagpur.

A BCCI official confirmed to PTI, “Washington Sundar has been ruled out from the T20 series against New Zealand due to a side strain.”

Washington’s absence raises concerns about his availability for the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7.

Additionally, Tilak Varma will miss the first three T20 matches against New Zealand because of a groin injury that required surgery.
