Virat Kohli Blazes to 50 in Just 29 Balls Against Gujarat in Vijay Hazare Thriller
In Delhi’s Elite phase match against Gujarat during the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru on Friday, Virat Kohli showcased his prowess with a superb half-century, scoring 77 runs off 61 balls. At 37, Kohli displayed exceptional skills, hitting 11 fours and one six, and reached his fifty in just 29 deliveries. He was eventually dismissed when spinner Vishal B Jayswal had him stumped, with Urvil Patel executing the play behind the wickets.
In the previous encounter, Kohli made a remarkable comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a 15-year hiatus by scoring 131 runs from 101 balls, leading Delhi to a four-wicket victory over Andhra on Wednesday. During this match, Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the quickest player to accumulate 16,000 runs in men’s List A cricket, achieving this milestone in his 330th innings.
Kohli now holds the distinction of being the fastest cricketer to reach every subsequent 1,000-run milestone from 10,000 runs onward in List A cricket. Alongside Rohit Sharma, Kohli is returning to India’s premier domestic 50-over tournament. Kohli’s last appearance in the competition was in the 2009-10 season, while Rohit played last in the 2017-18 season. Both cricketers, having retired from Test and T20I formats, still aim to compete in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
