Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Heroics Lead India to Historic Triumph in U19 Asia Cup 2025

Australia's Healy Backs Team's Adaptability for 2025 World Cup Glory

Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a commanding performance, scoring an impressive 171 off 95 balls, which propelled India to an overwhelming 234-run victory against the host UAE in the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup held in Dubai on Friday.

The 14-year-old prodigy from Samastipur, Bihar, showcased extraordinary batting prowess, smashing 14 sixes—the highest number ever hit by a batsman in a single U-19 innings—during his spectacular innings.

Contributions from Vihaan Malhotra (69) and Aaron George (69) further strengthened India’s position, leading to a formidable total of 433 for six in their 50 overs. This total marks India’s highest in U-19 ODIs and stands as the largest in U-19 Asia Cup history.

In response, the UAE couldn’t put up a significant challenge even with commendable fifties from Prithvi Madhu (50) and Uddish Suri (78 not out), as they managed only 199 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

Suryavanshi’s electrifying innings, featuring nine boundaries, now ranks as the second-highest score by an Indian in youth ODIs, just behind Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002, and is the ninth-highest score overall in men’s U-19 ODIs.

Electing to bat first, the young opener distinguished himself by aggressively attacking the UAE bowlers, reaching his fifty in just 30 balls and hitting his century in a mere 56 deliveries.

He put on a 212-run partnership with George, dismantling the host’s bowling attack. His exhilarating innings concluded in the 33rd over when he was dismissed by spinner Suri.

Following his departure, India’s middle-order maintained momentum, with Vedant Trivedi (38), Abhigyan Kundu (32 not out), and Kanishk Chouhan (28) ensuring the team surpassed the 400-run mark.

Presented with an imposing target, the UAE faltered early, losing two wickets within the first four overs. The rapid dismissals of Muhammad Rayan, Ayaan Misbah, and Ahmed Khudadad within nine balls left the team struggling at 48 for five.

Suri and Madhu managed to stabilize the innings with an 85-run partnership, but the early damage was insurmountable.
