Vaibhav Suryavanshi Shines as India U-19 Seals Series Victory Over South Africa
In an impressive display of cricket, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s quickfire fifty and Kishan Singh’s four-wicket haul led India Under-19 to an eight-wicket victory (DLS method) over South Africa Under-19 in a rain-affected second Youth ODI at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, on Monday.
This win secured the series for India, who now lead 2-0, ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup scheduled to start on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
India’s bowling unit, spearheaded by Kishan with figures of 4/46 and supported by RS Ambrish’s two wickets, successfully limited South Africa to 245 runs in fewer than 50 overs. Despite Jason Rowles’ top-score of 114 for South Africa, consistent breakthroughs from Indian bowlers kept the opposition’s total in check.

Acting as India’s captain, Suryavanshi ignited the innings with a 24-ball 68 (including 1 four and 10 sixes), propelling the team to a solid start before a weather interruption adjusted the target to 174 in 27 overs.
Remarkably, 14-year-old Suryavanshi reached his half-century in just 15 balls, marking the fastest fifty in youth ODIs. He also holds the record for the fastest century in the format.
Following Suryavanshi’s dismissal, Vedant Trivedi (not out on 31) and Abhigyan Kundu (not out on 48) partnered for an unbeaten 81-run third-wicket stand, guiding India to victory in the 24th over.
The third and final ODI will take place at the same venue on Wednesday.
