Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sets New Record for Quickest Youth ODI Fifty
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a teenage sensation, shattered Rishabh Pant’s record for the fastest fifty in a Youth ODI during the India Under-19 match against South Africa Under-19 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Monday.
While chasing a target of 246, Suryavanshi, opening for India, achieved a 15-ball fifty, surpassing Pant’s previous record of 18 balls set in the 2016 U-19 World Cup against Nepal in Dhaka.
The stand-in captain was eventually dismissed after scoring 68 runs off 24 balls, including one four and ten sixes.
Additionally, the 14-year-old holds the record for the fastest century at this level, having scored a 52-ball hundred against England in Worcester last year.
India is engaging in a three-match ODI series against South Africa as preparation for the U-19 World Cup, commencing on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
