Usman Khawaja Announces Retirement Following Final Ashes Battle in Sydney
Usman Khawaja has announced his retirement from international cricket following the fifth Ashes Test against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This announcement was made by the Australian batsman on Friday.
The 39-year-old debuted in Test cricket at the same venue during the 2010-11 Ashes series finale. Over his career, he has amassed 6,206 runs, with an average of 43.39, including 16 centuries, across 87 matches.
Khawaja stated, “I’m here to announce today that I’ll be retiring from all international cricket after the SCG test match,” while speaking to reporters at the ground. The fifth Test is set to begin on Sunday.

During the Ashes opener in Perth, Khawaja injured his back and missed the subsequent Test. Initially dropped for the third Test in Adelaide, he was recalled last minute after Steve Smith experienced vertigo. Batting at number four, Khawaja scored 82 and 40, contributing to Australia’s 82-run victory, which secured the series and retained the Ashes urn.
