The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership effective immediately, citing “repeated and continued breaches” of obligations expected of an ICC Member.
The decision was made during the ICC Board meeting after a year-long review and stakeholder consultations. Key reasons for the suspension include USA Cricket’s inability to establish functional governance, lack of recognition as a National Governing Body by the USOPC, and actions causing “reputational damage” to cricket.
Despite the suspension, USA’s national teams will still compete in ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The ICC, along with appointed representatives, will manage USA’s national teams temporarily, focusing on high-performance and player development programs.
An ICC-supported Normalisation Committee will outline necessary reforms for restoring USA Cricket’s membership, addressing governance, operations, and structure while aiding and monitoring the transition.
The ICC expressed that “the suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game,” reiterating its commitment to player welfare and cricket’s growth in the US.
