Bangladesh batsman Towhid Hridoy remarked that his run-out against Afghanistan marked a crucial turning point in the match and described it as a “crime”.

Bangladesh, having swept Afghanistan in the T20I series, succumbed to a five-wicket loss in the first ODI in the series opener due to their batting lineup’s inability to perform.

Despite early setbacks, Hridoy and captain Mehidy Hasan formed a steadying 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, a miscommunication led to Hridoy’s run-out for 56, sparking a collapse from which Bangladesh couldn’t recover.

“Yes, I believe the run-out was absolutely the turning point,” Hridoy reflected post-match. “We had brought the team back to a promising position, and being run out like that felt like a crime. It was a poor decision on my part. If I encounter a similar situation in the future, I hope to handle it better.”

Hridoy admitted a repeated issue as he has been run out four times internationally in 2025, acknowledging it’s an area needing improvement.

“The problem might be with me since it’s happening frequently,” he admitted. “I must identify the issue and work on rectifying it. Inshallah, I aim to overcome this quickly.”

The right-handed player emphasized the need for the batting squad to elevate their performance in the remaining ODIs but expressed confidence in a potential comeback.

“We fell short by about 40 to 50 runs. If we had achieved that, the match scenario could have differed. It wasn’t an easy pitch; it offered bowlers assistance. Given how well they bowled, I feel we were 50 runs short from a batting perspective,” he explained.

“Our focus is on the next match. If we perform well, we have the potential to win the following two matches consecutively,” he added.
