Suryakumar Yadav Committed to Time-Tested Techniques for Batting Revival
Suryakumar Yadav remains confident despite his recent struggles on the field. The 35-year-old cricketer is set to captain the Indian team in his 100th T20 International match against New Zealand, and he retained his cheerful demeanor when confronted with questions about his recent performance decline.
When queried about his practice sessions, Suryakumar humorously responded, “I didn’t practice behind any curtains. I batted on the open ground,” drawing laughs at the press conference at VCA Stadium.
He acknowledged the lack of runs but stated, “I can’t change who I am. I’ve decided to continue with the approach that has brought me success over the past few years.”
Suryakumar also shifted the emphasis away from personal statistics, highlighting the importance of the team’s performance in the five-match series and the upcoming T20 World Cup. He remarked, “In individual sports, you might focus on personal performance more, but in a team sport, my primary concern is the team’s performance. If the team wins and I contribute, that’s a bonus. If not, it’s part of the game. As captain, my responsibility extends to all players.”
He reassured that the past defeats in the Test and ODI series against New Zealand are bygones, asserting that India excels in T20s. “The Test series loss was a while back. The focus now is on the T20 matches. We’ve been performing well in this format. Pressure is part of the game, but it’s also what makes it exciting.”
