Pakistan’s head coach, Mike Hesson, has called on his team to eliminate distractions and concentrate solely on cricket as they prepare to face India in the tournament final. The upcoming match marks the third encounter between the arch-rivals in this competition, with prior discussions heavily focusing on off-field issues and on-field gestures rather than the cricket itself.

Hesson stated, “My message to the players is to focus entirely on cricket, and that’s exactly what we will be doing. In high-pressure games, passion and gestures are natural.”

“We have earned this chance. It’s now up to us to capitalize on it. All the games thus far have set the stage for us to win the trophy. Our primary focus is on the final, to deliver our best performance when it matters most,” he added.

Hesson highlighted that Pakistan gained confidence from their win against Bangladesh, particularly given how they managed to triumph despite early pressure.

“Advancing through different tournament phases, opponents often prevent you from playing perfectly, which was evident in the first 10 overs against Bangladesh,” Hesson explained.

“However, this group boasts immense character. Throughout recent months, we’ve won numerous games even without controlling all 40 overs. We had to fight back, and I’m proud of the team’s dedication to representing Pakistan,” he asserted.

“Every player believed in our capability to turn the game around. That’s essential when representing your country. While we aim to avoid being four down for 33, our ability to secure victories from such positions demonstrates the team’s character,” he concluded.

Hesson also commented on the challenges of fielding in Dubai, particularly the difficulties posed by the ‘ring of fire’ floodlights. Pakistan excelled in the field during their must-win match against Bangladesh, whereas their opponents missed three crucial catches. India, the tournament favorites, have struggled similarly, dropping 12 catches throughout the competition, including eight in their last two games.

When asked about the conditions, Hesson remarked, “The ‘ring of fire’ certainly affects everyone.”

“Our performance was strong today, aside from the very last catch. Maintaining solid fielding is crucial, but challenges arise if the ball is lost in the lights despite practice,” he elaborated.

“While everyone knows about it and practices for it, losing track of the ball in such situations is unavoidable. It’s just another challenge we must embrace,” he added.
