South Africa Secures Dominant Victory against Pakistan in T20 Series Opener
In the opening match of the Twenty20 International series in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, South Africa secured a commanding 55-run victory over host Pakistan. South African opener Reeza Hendricks scored an impressive 60 runs off 40 balls, while seamer Corbin Bosch delivered a career-best performance with figures of four for 14 in his four overs.
South Africa, after being put in to bat first, posted a total of 194 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 139 runs. Hendricks, alongside fellow opener Quinton de Kock, who contributed 23 runs from 13 balls, gave their team a strong start. Tony de Zorzi, making his debut in this format, chipped in with a quick 33 off 16 balls, and all-rounder George Linde added 36 from 22 deliveries.
Mohammad Nawaz stood out with the ball for Pakistan, achieving figures of three for 26 in his four overs. However, Pakistan struggled against the South African seamers during the chase, failing to gain any momentum. Despite a solid 37 runs from 28 balls by Saim Ayub at the top of the order, Pakistan fell short. Babar Azam, returning to T20I action for the first time since last December, was dismissed early for a two-ball duck, caught by Hendricks off Bosch.
While Linde was initially expensive, he managed to finish with three wickets for 31 runs. The series continues with the second match set to take place in Lahore on Friday, followed by the final game at the same venue on Saturday.
