South Africa Dominates Pakistan to Clinch Victory at 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Showdown

South Africa Triumphs Over Pakistan to Secure 2025 Women's ODI World Cup Glory

The recurrent rains at the R. Premadasa Stadium took on a different role Tuesday, merely observing as Pakistan was decisively overcome by a formidable South African team in their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 match.

The pursuit of a challenging 306-run target quickly unraveled due to frequent wickets and intermittent showers. Troubles began early for Pakistan when Muneeba Ali was dismissed in the second over. Subsequently, South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp delivered a critical double-strike, including the wicket of Sidra Amin, further disrupting Pakistan’s momentum.

The unpredictable rain further hindered Pakistan’s already slim chances. When play resumed for the final stretch, a daunting 186 runs were required from the last eight overs—an almost insurmountable task, even from the onset of their innings.

Earlier, South Africa commenced with aggressive intent despite an initial setback. In the rain-shortened 40-over match, captain Laura Wolvaardt led the charge.

The opener displayed style and precision through the off-side before escalating her aggression. She reached her fifty with a clean cover drive, then continued with her natural style—stepping out, rotating the strike seamlessly, and setting the pace.

Vital partnerships with Sune Luus and Kapp allowed the Proteas to maintain control. Wolvaardt and Luus put together a significant 118-run partnership for the second wicket, stabilizing the innings after the early dismissal of Tazmin Brits for her third duck of the tournament.

Luus found her rhythm, picking gaps and reaching a well-crafted 61 before falling to Nashra Sandhu. Kapp then joined Wolvaardt for a 64-run partnership, as the captain approached her century before being caught by Sandhu.

Kapp continued to keep the scoreboard ticking, securing a composed and quick half-century. She stepped back when Nadine de Klerk joined the fray, whose explosive 41 off just 16 balls propelled South Africa past the 300-run threshold, making it an unassailable target for Pakistan.
