SMAT 2025-26: Ishan Kishan Embraces ‘Just Go For It’ Batting Philosophy

SMAT 2025-26: Ishan Kishan's Aggressive Batting Mantra Ignites the Tournament

After his unbeaten knock of 113 runs from just 50 balls, punctuated with 10 fours and 8 sixes, led the Jharkhand team to successfully chase a target of 183 against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy held in Ahmedabad on Sunday, captain Ishan Kishan shared his thoughts on batting with intent despite the early loss of two wickets.

“In cricket, especially when opening, the goal is to accumulate as many runs as possible,” Kishan explained. “You identify those deliveries where the bowler’s plan falls short and seize the opportunity. Despite the early wickets, I was clear in my approach: if the ball is in my zone, I’m going for it.”

Reflecting a newfound maturity, Ishan, now 27, expressed the influence of spirituality on his life and game, noting that it brings him calmness, irrespective of his on-field performance. He even sports a tattoo of a spiritual saint’s face on his right arm. “As you grow and understand the value of things, you realize there’s more to life than just cricket. This perspective helps you stay composed, regardless of the situation,” he added.

Ishan further elaborated on the batting strategy of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and how both he and his teammate Abhishek Sharma thrive within it. “I enjoy playing aggressively, so their game plan suits me well,” he said. He attributed this to the freedom given by the coaches, saying, “The coaches deserve credit for allowing us such freedom. Players don’t stress about losing their wicket; our focus is simply on watching the ball and scoring.”

Additionally, Ishan praised Abhishek Sharma’s current form, attributing his success to hard work and thoughtful preparation. “Abhishek is hitting sensational scores right now. His rigorous training, coupled with the guidance of Yuvi paaji (Yuvraj Singh), is clearly paying off. We all remember Yuvraj’s mental toughness as a player, and Abhishek is certainly benefiting from his mentorship.”
