Shubman Gill Set to Boost Punjab’s Lineup for 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Clashes with Sikkim and Goa
Shubman Gill is expected to play for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy group matches against Sikkim and Goa during the first week of January.
Amidst rumors of India’s Test and ODI captain potentially joining the squad for the third and fourth group matches, sources within the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) have confirmed to Sportstar that Gill has committed to being available for the fixtures on January 3 and 6.
“He will be joining the team in Jaipur around January 1 for these games. Although he is keen on playing the final group match against Mumbai, this will depend on the BCCI’s schedule for upcoming camps before the home series against New Zealand,” the source explained.

India is set to face New Zealand from January 11, with a probable preparatory camp in Vadodara preceding the series by a few days. Consequently, Gill might have to skip the game against Mumbai.
Gill, recently omitted from the T20 World Cup squad, has been sidelined due to an impact injury on his right foot and was earlier ruled out of the second Test against South Africa because of a neck injury.
In accordance with the BCCI’s rule that all players should participate in domestic tournaments when not on national duty, there was speculation about Gill’s availability for the entire Vijay Hazare Trophy, alongside Abhishek Sharma.

Although Abhishek played in the tournament-opener against Maharashtra, Gill has been training in Mohali after recovering from his foot injury.
Punjab has started the tournament strong, winning their matches against Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The team management is optimistic that Gill’s participation will further strengthen their batting lineup as the competition advances.
