Shubman Gill Set for T20 Clash: Ready to Face South Africa in Series Opener
India’s T20I vice-captain, Shubman Gill, has been given the green light by the Sports Science team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence to participate in the opening match against South Africa. This clearance comes after Gill successfully completed his rehabilitation for a neck injury incurred during the Kolkata Test.
Gill’s inclusion in the squad was contingent on his fitness, necessitating adherence to all mandated rehabilitation and skill-training protocols for his Return To Play (RTP).
“Shubman Gill has successfully finished his rehabilitation at the CoE and has fulfilled the necessary criteria to be deemed fit for all cricket formats,” reads a communication from the CoE to the team management’s Sports Science and Medicine (SSM) team. This team includes physio Kamlesh Jain, strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, and sports doctor Dr. Charles.
The neck injury, a result of a whiplash on the second day of the Kolkata Test, required Gill to be hospitalized for several days and to receive an injection for treatment. Consequently, he was unable to participate in the ongoing ODI series while recovering from his injury.
