Shubman Gill Praises RoKo’s Near-Perfect Performance
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s exceptional performances paved the way for Shubman Gill to achieve his first victory as India’s ODI captain. Rohit scored an unbeaten 121, marking his 33rd ODI century, while Kohli provided solid support with 74 not out. Their partnership was instrumental in India’s successful chase of Australia’s modest target of 236, completing the task with almost 11 overs remaining.
Gill described this decisive nine-wicket victory over Australia in the third match as a “near-perfect game.” In his post-match comments, despite India losing the three-match series 1-2, Gill expressed pleasure over the chase, highlighting the longstanding contributions of Rohit and Kohli as particularly gratifying on such a significant occasion.
He also praised pacer Harshit Rana, who claimed four wickets, and the spinners for their effective containment efforts during the middle overs. He emphasized the importance of having someone like Harshit who can bowl with pace during crucial phases.
On the Australian side, captain Mitchell Marsh commended Rohit and Kohli for their remarkable innings but lamented his team’s missed opportunity to capitalize on their promising position at 195 for three, with about 15 overs left. He acknowledged that while Rohit and Virat have consistently performed at high levels over the years, his team fell short of exploiting their strong start. Marsh took pride in winning the series after the first two games, while also appreciating contributions from players like Matthew Renshaw and Nathan Ellis.
