Shreyas Iyer’s Road to Recovery: Heartfelt Update from Suryakumar Yadav

Inside Shreyas Iyer's Comeback Journey: A Candid Insight from Suryakumar Yadav

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, provided an encouraging update on Shreyas Iyer’s condition, stating that the middle-order batter is “stable” and “responding” to messages following a serious injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Since Saturday, Iyer has been hospitalized due to a ribcage injury incurred while taking a diving catch. He was quickly taken to the hospital and admitted to the ICU after his vitals dropped as a result of internal bleeding. Medical examinations revealed a laceration to the spleen, but prompt medical intervention stabilized him.

Speaking to reporters before the T20I series, Suryakumar mentioned, “When I heard about his injury, I contacted our physio Kamlesh Jain. Iyer is now responding to phone messages, which indicates he is stable.”

Iyer was moved out of the ICU on Monday, and his recovery is on track. Suryakumar, who is currently in Australia for the five-match T20I series commencing on October 29 in Canberra, expressed his intention to accompany Iyer back home after the tour.

“It’s unfortunate what happened, and such incidents are rare. But rare things happen to rare talent like Shreyas Iyer. By God’s grace, everything is fine. We’ll bring him back home after the series,” he stated.
