Shami and Akash Deep Strengthen Bengal Squad as Easwaran Takes Captaincy Reins

Abhimanyu Easwaran, a hopeful for the Indian team and a top-order batter, has been appointed as the captain of a robust Bengal Senior Men’s Team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-2026 season, commencing on October 15, as announced by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Wednesday (October 8). Wicketkeeper-batsman Abishek Porel will serve as the vice-captain.

The inclusion of acclaimed fast bowlers Md Shami and Akash Deep will strengthen Bengal’s bowling attack. Seasoned players like Anustup Majumdar and Sudip Chatterjee, along with young talent Sudip Kr Gharami, will play key roles in the batting lineup. Emerging players Rahul Prasad, Saurabh Kr Singh, and Vishal Bhati will be looking to make an impact on the big stage.

The team will be coached by Laxmi Ratan Shukla as the head coach, with Arup Bhattacharjee and Shib Shankar Paul also on the coaching staff, and Charanjit Singh Matharu as the fielding coach.

Bengal will kick off their Ranji Trophy journey against Uttarakhand at the Eden Gardens on October 15, and their second match at home will be against Gujarat on October 25.
