Shaheen Afridi’s Knee Injury Sidelines Him from BBL 2025-26 Action
Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has returned home due to a knee injury after participating in four games for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League. On social media, Afridi mentioned, “Due to an unexpected injury, I have been called back by the PCB and will have to undergo rehab. Hopefully, I will be back on the field soon.”
Afridi sustained the injury on his right knee while bowling against the Adelaide Strikers last Saturday and had to leave the field. The Pakistan Cricket Board recalled him as a precautionary measure with the T20 World Cup commencing on February 7.
Afridi expressed his gratitude to the Brisbane Heat team and fans for their support, adding, “Meanwhile, I will be cheering for the amazing team.”
During his brief stint with the Brisbane Heat, Afridi struggled, taking just two wickets in four matches with a high economy rate of 11.19. In his first game of the season, he was removed from the attack in the 18th over after delivering two waist-high full tosses to Melbourne Renegades’ batters Tim Seifert and Oliver Peake.
Afridi’s knee has been a recurring issue; he injured it previously during a Test match in Sri Lanka in 2022, causing him to miss the early stages of the T20 World Cup in Australia. Although he returned later in the tournament, he re-injured the same knee during the final against England, affecting Pakistan’s chances in the title match.
Although Afridi was not named in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20 series in Sri Lanka due to a rotation policy, he remains a crucial player for the T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
