Sciver-Brunt’s Heroics Propel England to Dominant Victory Over India in World Cup Warm-Up
Nat Sciver-Brunt showcased exceptional leadership with an outstanding century, propelling England to a 153-run victory over India in their warm-up match ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup on Thursday.
Opting to bat first, Sciver-Brunt scored a brilliant 120 off 104 deliveries. She formed a formidable partnership with the dynamic Emma Lamb, who contributed 84 runs off 60 balls. Their efforts led England to a commanding total of 340 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
In response, India was bowled out for a mere 187 in 34 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues topped the scoresheet for India, hitting 66 runs from 68 balls, while Uma Chetry added 45 from 50 balls at the start of the innings.
Unfortunately, Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma were unable to make significant impacts with the bat. Additionally, the top-order players Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana did not get a chance to bat.
For England, Linsey Smith and Sophie Ecclestone each claimed two wickets. Meanwhile, Kranti Goud stood out as India’s most effective bowler, taking three wickets for 31 runs.
India is set to face New Zealand in their second and final warm-up match on September 27 before proceeding to Guwahati for the World Cup opener against Sri Lanka three days later.
Earlier, India suffered a setback when fast bowler Arundhati Reddy sustained an injury. After dismissing England’s opener Amy Jones, Reddy attempted a catch off Heather Knight in the 13th over but landed awkwardly on her left leg and went down.
Medical personnel attended to Arundhati, initially trying to help her off the field on foot before resorting to a wheelchair to assist the injured pacer.
