Sarfaraz’s Spectacular Double Century Propels Mumbai to Massive 560 Against Hyderabad

Sarfaraz's Stellar 200 Powers Mumbai to Commanding Total Against Hyderabad

Sarfaraz Khan showed incredible determination battling through severe pain due to a bone swelling in his right wrist while taking on a Hyderabad attack led by Mohammed Siraj. His efforts played a pivotal role in propelling Mumbai to an impressive first-innings total of 560 in their Ranji Trophy match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday.

Starting the day unbeaten on 142, Sarfaraz initially adopted a cautious approach as he faced the fresh ball. He reached his 150 with a boundary, acknowledging the crowd with a subdued bat raise.

Sitting at 352 runs, Mumbai aimed to dominate Hyderabad, leading Sarfaraz, the 28-year-old, to shift to an aggressive, T20-like style in partnership with Suved Parkar. The duo quickly added 92 runs in 16 overs, with Suved reaching his fifty off just 52 balls.

Despite visible discomfort, Sarfaraz’s batting remained unaffected, highlighted by a straight drive off Siraj that soared to the second tier. He followed it with an improvised shot over the slip cordon for six.

Shortly, he celebrated his fifth First-Class double century, and fourth in the Ranji Trophy. Expressing his joy, he removed his helmet while scoring the single and then, with arms outstretched, declared, “Mumbai maji aai aahe” (Mumbai is my mother) towards the dressing room.

With the pressure of reaching his milestone gone, Sarfaraz batted even more freely. His audacious shots included a powerful swing that sent the ball over the Hyderabad pavilion, impressing even his opponents.

Sarfaraz’s sensational innings ended when Rakshann Readdi breached his defense, but the damage was already done with a significant 154-run partnership with Suved. Mumbai quickly lost other wickets, adding just 72 more runs before being bowled out.

Hyderabad faced a daunting task, already two wickets down and trailing by 522 runs after Tushar Deshpande removed Abhirath Reddy and Himanshu Singh dismissed debutant Aman Rao.

However, vice-captain Rahul Singh and K. Himateja showed resilience, enduring multiple body blows to prevent further losses. Rahul notched up a brisk 62-ball fifty post-tea, and their partnership brought a 100-run stand by day’s end, providing Hyderabad a glimmer of hope for at least a draw.
