Sarfaraz Khan’s Dazzling Double Century Ignites Ranji Trophy

Spectacular Sarfaraz Khan Shines with Double Ton in Ranji Trophy Blaze

In a Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad, Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan showcased his prowess by scoring a double century off 206 balls on Friday, marking the fifth double century of his First-Class career.

Earlier in the game, Sarfaraz reached his 17th First-Class hundred, which was also his first for the 2025–26 season. Since the 2019–20 season, only Amandeep Khare and Anustup Majumdar have surpassed Sarfaraz in terms of Ranji Trophy centuries.

Sarfaraz’s innings finally concluded at 227 runs from 219 balls, featuring 19 fours and nine sixes, achieving a strike rate of 103.65. Notably, he excelled against his India team-mate Mohammed Siraj, scoring 45 runs off just 39 balls against him.

Sarfaraz has been in remarkable form recently. During the seventh round of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he delivered a stunning 15-ball half-century against Punjab, setting a record for the fastest fifty by an Indian in List A cricket.

By doing so, Sarfaraz surpassed the previous record jointly held by Maharashtra’s Abhijit Kale, who reached his fifty in 16 balls against Baroda in 1995, and Baroda all-rounder Atit Sheth, who also achieved the feat in 16 balls against Chhattisgarh in 2021.

He concluded the tournament as Mumbai’s leading run-scorer, accumulating 303 runs in six innings with an average of 75.75 and a strike rate of 190.56.

Sarfaraz’s last appearance for India was in a Test match against New Zealand in November 2024, but his stellar domestic performances have continued. He was Mumbai’s second-highest run-scorer in the 2025–26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 329 runs over seven matches at an average of 65.80 and a strike rate of 203.80.

His impressive form was further acknowledged when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured him for his base price of Rs. 75 lakh during the IPL 2026 auction.
