Sam Curran’s Heroics Propel Desert Vipers to Historic ILT20 Victory
The Desert Vipers clinched their first-ever ILT20 title by defeating MI Emirates by 46 runs in the final held in Dubai, thanks to an unbeaten 74 from captain Sam Curran. This victory marked a moment of redemption for the Vipers, who had previously fallen short in their two earlier final appearances.
Sam Curran’s stellar performance was the cornerstone of the Vipers’ innings, as he registered his highest score in the ILT20 tournament. The English all-rounder forged a crucial 89-run partnership with fellow countryman Max Holden for the third wicket, solidifying their position in the match.
Dan Lawrence provided a late surge, contributing 23 runs off just 15 balls, to push the Vipers’ score further. In response, MI Emirates struggled to gain momentum, with Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah orchestrating the Vipers’ tight bowling efforts with remarkable figures of 3/18 from his four overs.
David Payne’s late three-wicket haul sealed the victory for the Vipers, as MI Emirates were bowled out for a mere 136 runs. The game concluded with a decisive win for the Vipers, ensuring their place in ILT20 history.
