Rohit Sharma’s Blitzkrieg: A 28-Ball Fifty Ignites Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Rohit Sharma made his long-awaited return to the Vijaya Hazare Trophy after a seven-year hiatus, representing Mumbai in their Elite phase match against Sikkim in Jaipur on Wednesday.
Opening the batting for Mumbai, which was chasing a target of 237, Rohit walked out to the field at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Despite being 38 years old, Rohit was in top form, reaching a fifty off just 28 balls, highlighted by seven boundaries and four towering sixes. The presence of Rohit attracted a massive turnout at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
In anticipation of the match, the Rajasthan Cricket Association opened the stadium gates for free entry right before the game kicked off. As a result, long lines formed outside the venue with fans eager to catch the action live. While some managed to snag prime viewing spots, many were simply delighted to be inside the stadium watching the former India captain play.
About half an hour into the match, excitement swelled as spectators noticed national selector R.P. Singh in attendance, sparking chants like, “ Gambhir dekh raha hai na, Rohit ka jalwa’ (Is Gautam Gambhir watching Rohit’s stardom?)”.
Although security personnel ensured the crowd maintained a safe distance from the players’ area, Rohit thrilled his fans by acknowledging them during the game, waving and allowing photos from across the fence. His gestures left the crowd beaming with joy.
