Rohit Sharma Reigns as New Leader in ICC ODI Batting Rankings
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has ascended to the top position in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings for the first time in his career, as per the latest update released on Wednesday. Rohit advanced two places from third position following an impressive unbeaten century in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, which led India to a dominant nine-wicket victory. He is now the fifth Indian to achieve the top spot in the batting rankings, following legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill.
Rohit’s remarkable 33rd ODI century, alongside a valuable 74* from Virat Kohli, was crucial in preventing India from suffering a series sweep. This performance enabled Rohit to surpass Shubman Gill, now in third place, and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran in the rankings.
Despite his half-century performance, Kohli slipped one place to sixth in the batting rankings, overtaken by New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who scored an unbeaten 78 during New Zealand’s victory over England in their first bilateral ODI. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer has moved up one place to secure the ninth position on the list, replacing Shai Hope.
In other updates concerning Indian players, Axar Patel has made significant strides by climbing to 31st in the ODI bowling rankings and advancing four places to reach eighth in the all-rounder rankings.
