Rohit Sharma Applauds Harmanpreet Kaur’s Heroics in India’s World Cup Victory

Rohit Sharma Hails Harmanpreet Kaur's Brilliance in India's World Cup Triumph

It’s been a month since India clinched the Women’s ODI World Cup title, yet for captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the victory feels as fresh as yesterday. Everywhere she goes, people remind her of the team’s remarkable achievement and its historic significance after years of setbacks.

Despite three consecutive losses, India made a stunning comeback to qualify for the semifinals and ultimately claimed the title at the DY Patil Stadium, defeating South Africa. The emotional moment was shared not just by Harmanpreet and her teammates but also by former India captain Rohit Sharma, who couldn’t contain his emotions while watching the final.

“I was there; that’s the moment you live and work hard for, and I am sure a lot of effort was put in before that World Cup began,” Rohit stated during the announcement of the upcoming T20 World Cup schedule on Tuesday, with Harmanpreet nodding in agreement.

After losing three games in a row, including a close defeat to England in Indore, the Indian team faced challenges. However, they regrouped and made a remarkable comeback.

“I asked her (Harmanpreet) if the coach (Amol Muzumdar) remained calm after the England game. Unsurprisingly, he is very passionate. I know him well and understand him, as he was my captain in Mumbai,” Rohit mentioned.

“Even though I wasn’t present, I could sense what transpired after the England game. Their journey to lifting the trophy from that point was not only a great feeling for me but for the entire nation…”
