Afghanistan’s batter, Rahmat Shah, is likely to miss the decisive third ODI against Bangladesh due to a calf injury.
In the second ODI, Rahmat, who retired hurt after sustaining the injury, made a valiant return to the crease after Afghanistan lost their ninth wicket, though he faced just one ball.
Afghanistan’s team physio, Nirmalan Thanabalasingam, came to Rahmat’s aid as he struggled to stand, and later he was transported off the field in a wheelchair.
The crowd applauded Rahmat’s effort to bat, but his innings was cut short when Rishad Hossain’s googly struck him in the abdomen, causing him to collapse immediately.
“He (Rahmat) unfortunately succumbed to his injury, so he is out now. We will conduct all the necessary imaging tomorrow. He is likely to be sidelined for some time,” the physio remarked, suggesting Rahmat would miss the third ODI against Bangladesh.
Recently, Shah achieved the milestone of becoming the first Afghan batsman to score 4,000 ODI runs and played a crucial half-century in the first match.
The third ODI is set for October 14 in Abu Dhabi.
