Rabeya Khan Highlights Upper-Order Pressure in NZ vs BAN 2025 Women’s World Cup Clash

Rabeya Khan Shines Amidst Top-Order Strain in 2025 NZ vs BAN Women's World Cup Duel

In a Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 league match held on Friday at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Bangladesh spinner Rabeya Khan admitted that her team fell short against New Zealand, suffering a 100-run defeat. The Tigresses’ batting performance was scrutinized after their innings collapsed for 127 in 39.5 overs while chasing a target of 228. A 44-run partnership between Fahima Khatun and Rabeya offered some stability before the collapse.

In a post-match interview, Rabeya expressed her candid views by stating, “The batters need to address why this is happening. The lower-order can put in their best effort, but if the top order doesn’t contribute runs, it becomes challenging for us. Fahima and I focused on rotating the strike to reduce the target and extend the innings. The required runs weren’t overwhelming, but we lacked wickets to capitalize,” said Rabeya, who also picked up three wickets.

When asked if pitch conditions changed in the second innings affecting Bangladesh’s batting, she responded, “The pitch remained unchanged. We simply didn’t perform well tonight, and that’s the reality.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu celebrated her 100th ODI by claiming three wickets and expressed satisfaction with New Zealand’s first win after two losses. “This victory is a positive start for our campaign. With matches coming up quickly, it’s crucial to learn from each game and keep progressing,” she commented.
