Persistent Batting Woes Plague Tamil Nadu on Day 3 against Jharkhand
On the third day of the first-round Ranji Trophy Group A match at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science ground, Tamil Nadu faced a challenging situation after Thursday’s top-order collapse. They were dismissed for 93 and forced to follow on by Jharkhand, who had a substantial 326-run first-innings lead.
After a delayed start due to rain, Shahrukh Khan (5) was bowled by pacer Sahil Raj in just the second over—his off-stump broken. Debutants R.S. Ambrish (28) and Hemchudeshan (14) managed a resilient 38-run partnership for the seventh wicket over 66 balls before Ambrish was bowled by Vikash Singh, with the ball squeezing between his bat and pad. Shortly after, Hemchudeshan was caught down the leg side off debutant pacer Jatin Kumar Pandey.
Jatin claimed his first First-Class five-for after lunch, dismissing Gurjapneet Singh (12) and leaving the field briefly in discomfort afterward, though he later returned to bowl in Tamil Nadu’s second innings. The tail-end pair, D.T. Chandrasekar (9) and Sandeep Warrier (5*), put up a stubborn 108-ball stand for 15 runs before Chandrasekar was trapped lbw by Sahil.
In the follow-on, Tamil Nadu lost three crucial wickets, two of which were taken by debutant off-spinner Rishav Raj. Ambrish (15), stepping in as an opener due to B. Sachin’s illness, was bowled by Rishav as the ball stayed low. N. Jagadeesan (21) was caught behind off Sahil, while Pradosh Ranjan Paul (8) was caught at slip by Virat Singh off Rishav.
