Pant’s Absence Looms Over India’s ODI Face-off Against New Zealand

India Braces for ODI Clash with New Zealand Minus Pant's Prowess

Rishabh Pant, the reserve wicketkeeper-batter, is likely to miss the ODI series following an injury sustained during a batting session at the Baroda Cricket Association International Stadium on Saturday. Pant experienced a side-strain after being hit by a side-armer towards the conclusion of an extended practice at the ‘B’ ground. Despite his evident discomfort, the entire Indian team present for the optional practice, including head coach Gautam Gambhir, quickly gathered around him with concern.

Sportstar has learned that Pant’s injury, characterized by severe bruising, will likely require a minimum of 10 days for recovery according to the team’s medical staff. Consequently, Pant is expected to be unavailable for any of the three ODIs.

Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the national selection panel, was also present during the session. In Pant’s absence, Ishan Kishan, who has recently been brought back into the T20I squad after a two-year hiatus, is anticipated to join the squad as the reserve wicketkeeper for the final two ODIs. An official announcement regarding this change is anticipated on Sunday, in advance of the first ODI.
