Pakistan has canceled the press conference planned before their Super Four match against India in the Asia Cup, leaving the reasoning unclear. Haris Rauf had represented the team at the last media interaction following the UAE game.
Cricbuzz previously noted ongoing issues between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC), even as Pakistan proceeded with their match against UAE.
Similar actions were taken by Pakistan before their UAE match after the ICC cleared Andy Pycroft in the handshake incident with India. He was then named match referee for the UAE match. The press conference cancellation sparked uncertainty until the match eventually began after a one-hour delay. Discussions between team officials and Pycroft took place, but both sides reported different accounts of these dialogues.
The Asian Cricket Council has yet to announce match officials for the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday. However, Pycroft is reportedly a leading candidate for the match referee position, potentially influencing Pakistan’s choice to forego the press conference.
On the match’s eve, Pakistan is set to train at the ICC Academy from 6 pm local time, with this session proceeding as planned, according to Cricbuzz.
Conversely, India, initially without practice plans, arranged a last-minute optional session at the same venue and time. Having played against Oman in Abu Dhabi on Friday, the team initially intended to rest on Saturday but opted for light practice before the Super Four games.
