Tamil Nadu couldn’t achieve the outcome they desired in the Ranji Trophy match against Nagaland, but they did secure a 66-run lead on the first innings during the final day of the second round at the BCCI CoE on Tuesday.

The head coaches of both teams, M. Senthilnathan for Tamil Nadu and Debashish Mohanty for Nagaland, shared their insights exclusively with Sportstar regarding the match.

“This wasn’t the result we were aiming for. We had higher expectations, but that’s the nature of the game. The pitch played well even on the last day, so I believe this outcome is fair. Nagaland applied themselves effectively and fought hard,” Senthilnathan commented.

He added, “People might be taken aback by Nagaland’s determination, but credit is due to them. The left-hander, Imliwati, demonstrated real grit.”

Mohanty expressed, “I believe we performed exceptionally well. Honestly, our boys showed remarkable character, especially against a prominent team like Tamil Nadu.”

He further stated, “After our initial setback at 31 for four, bouncing back required immense character. Nischal, Imliwati, and the young Yugandhar displayed great resilience.”

“Imliwati’s innings put pressure on them. With Nischal steady at one end, Imli’s free scoring was unexpected. When a Nagaland number seven started counterattacking top bowlers, it naturally increased the tension,” Mohanty explained.

He concluded, “The standout was our boys’ composure under pressure, which was truly commendable. We have areas to improve, particularly in fielding and bowling. However, I’m satisfied with our progress overall.”
