Mushfiqur’s Masterclass: Bangladesh Clinches Series with Commanding Win Over Ireland

Mushfiqur's Brilliance Seals Series Triumph for Bangladesh Against Ireland

In his 100th Test, Mushfiqur Rahim celebrated with a century, leading Bangladesh to a commanding 217-run victory in the second Test, thus securing a 2–0 series sweep against Ireland.

Mushfiqur scored 106 runs and remained unbeaten with 53 in the second innings, amassing a match total of 159. Liton Das contributed with a score of 128, helping the hosts amass 476 in their first innings.

Despite Irish off-spinner Andy McBrine’s impressive figures of 6-109, which thwarted Bangladesh’s attempt to surpass 500 runs, Taijul Islam stole the spotlight. He claimed figures of 4-76 and 4-94, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to reach 250 Test wickets as Ireland was bowled out for 265 in their first innings.

Bangladesh chose not to enforce the follow-on. Openers Shadman Islam (78) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (60) shared a 119-run partnership, setting the tone for the innings.

Mominul Haque then took charge with 87 runs, marking his third consecutive 50-plus score in the series after previously scoring 87 and 63. Bangladesh declared at 297-4, putting Ireland in pursuit of an unlikely 509 for victory.

Ireland’s Harry Tector (50) and Curtis Campher showed resilience as they extended the game into the fifth day.

Campher, who was unbeaten on 71, formed crucial half-century partnerships with Jordan Neill (30) and Gavin Hoye (37), delaying Bangladesh’s victory attempt until Sunday.

Hasan Murad shone with figures of 4-44, taking wickets on consecutive deliveries and concluding the Irish second innings at 291.

Bangladesh had previously clinched the first match by an innings and 47 runs.

The two teams are scheduled to compete in a three-match T20 international series, starting November 29 in Chattogram.
