Mumbai Indians Appoint Lisa Keightley as Head Coach for WPL 2026
Mumbai Indians have named former Australian international Lisa Keightley as their head coach for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. She takes over from Charlotte Edwards, who departed to become the head coach of the England national team in April this year.
Keightley, who is 54, played for Australia in 92 matches (9 Tests, 82 ODIs, and 1 T20I) and was part of the World Cup-winning teams in 1997 and 2005. Following her playing career, she ventured into coaching, where she has led both the Australian and England women’s national teams. Recently, she guided the Northern Superchargers to victory in the Women’s Hundred and has also gained experience coaching the Sydney Thunder in the WBBL.
In a statement, Keightley expressed her excitement about joining a team that has set high standards in the WPL, saying, “It’s an honour to join the Mumbai Indians, a team that has set the benchmark in the WPL. The culture of excellence and care is something I deeply admire. I look forward to working with this talented group to build on our success and continue inspiring on and off the field.”
Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, have won two out of the three WPL editions—2023 and 2025—with Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking the title in 2024. In their championship years, Mumbai defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final and lost to RCB in the 2024 Eliminator.
