Mohammad Mithun Takes Helm as CWAB President
On Thursday, Bangladesh’s middle-order batter Mohammad Mithun was elected as the president of the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB). This election followed the disbandment of the previous administration, which was led by former national captain Naimur Rahman. Rahman, who had assumed control of CWAB in 2014 following an unofficial meeting, is currently in jail, leading to the vacancy of his post.
In March, a temporary 13-member committee, led by Selim Shahed, was established to organize new elections. In the recent vote held at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy in Dhaka, Mithun, aged 34, won against former national cricketer and match referee Selim Shahed with a margin of 154 to 34 votes.
Mithun stated his commitment to advocating for cricketers’ interests, emphasizing the close relationship between CWAB and BCB as akin to family dynamics.
In this election, only the presidential position was contested. Former opener Shahriar Hossain Bidyut was chosen unopposed as the senior vice-president, and current Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan was elected as the vice-president. Unopposed elections also saw national cricket personalities such as Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Akbar Ali, and others become executive members.

- Vice-President: Nurul Hasan Sohan
- Members: Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Akbar Ali, Rumana Ahmed, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, Irfan Sukkur, Khaled Mashud Pilot, Imrul Kayes
