MI vs GG, WPL 2026: Harmanpreet’s Heroics Propel Mumbai to Historic Triumph

Harmanpreet's Masterclass Secures Mumbai's WPL 2026 Glory

When Harmanpreet Kaur took the crease, Mumbai Indians were struggling at 37/2, chasing a daunting target of 193. However, the captain’s unbeaten 71 off 43 balls guided the team to a seven-wicket victory against Gujarat Giants in a Women’s Premier League match on Tuesday.

In a nearly full D.Y. Patil Stadium, Harmanpreet showed composure, forming two crucial partnerships. She added 72 runs off 44 balls with Amanjot Kaur for the third wicket and then an unbroken 84 off 43 balls with Nicola Carey. This effort led the reigning champions to their highest successful chase in the tournament.

Amanjot Kaur contributed with a flurry of boundaries before falling to Sophie Devine. After her departure, Harmanpreet and Carey ensured no further setbacks, leading Mumbai Indians to their second consecutive win and handing Giants their eighth straight loss in head-to-head matches.

The Giants’ bowlers struggled to defend a substantial total, resulting in disappointment for Bharti Fulmali. Her unbeaten cameo of 36 off 15 balls had helped lift the Giants to 192/5.

Earlier, Mumbai’s bowlers restricted the Giants effectively in the middle overs. However, Bharti (36 in 15 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes) and Georgia Wareham (43 in 33 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) sparked a turnaround, adding an unbroken 56-run stand off 24 balls for the sixth wicket. Giants became the first team to score over 180 runs in three consecutive matches.

In a tactical move, Gujarat retired a struggling Ayushi Soni in the 16th over, bringing in Bharti to inject energy into the innings.

In the latter stages, Bharti survived a couple of reviews and launched an assault with a sequence of fours and sixes. She scored 15 runs in Carey’s 19th over and hammered Amanjot in the final over, scoring 18 out of the 23 runs in that over. Despite her splendid effort, the Giants fell short.
