Meet Senuran Muthusamy: South Africa’s Rising Star Who Hit His Maiden Test Century in Guwahati

Senuran Muthusamy: South Africa's New Cricket Sensation Shines in Guwahati

South African all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy achieved his first Test century on Sunday during the second Test match against India at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

Playing only his eighth Test match, Muthusamy reached this milestone after facing 192 balls. His previous highest score was an unbeaten 89, which he recorded against Pakistan in Rawalpindi earlier this year.

The 31-year-old cricketer hails from Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa and made his Test debut against India in 2019 in Visakhapatnam. Notably, his first Test wicket was that of Virat Kohli. As a left-arm orthodox bowler, Muthusamy has struggled for a regular spot in the team due to the presence of Keshav Maharaj.

Born in Durban, Muthusamy has a familial connection to India through his father, who comes from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.

He made his T20I and ODI debuts in 2025 and has been on the cusp of securing a regular position in the starting lineup. While he was part of the World Test Championship-winning squad, he did not play in any of the matches throughout the cycle.

Muthusamy impressed during the Pakistan tour, achieving a 10-wicket haul in Rawalpindi alongside his unbeaten 89. Although he missed the first Test against India in Kolkata, he was selected to play in the Guwahati Test.
