MCA Requests Maharashtra Government to Allocate Land for Women’s Cricket Academy
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has approached the Maharashtra government with a request for a suitable plot of land within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, on which it plans to establish a residential cricket academy specifically for women.
On Friday, MCA President Ajinkya Naik formally addressed this request to the state’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
This development follows India’s successful campaign in the Women’s ODI World Cup.
The MCA emphasized in their letter their continued commitment to nurturing young talent and providing advanced cricket infrastructure in Mumbai and its neighboring areas.
“In our ongoing efforts to promote women’s cricket, we are eager to set up a Residential Women’s Cricket Academy located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR),” the letter elaborated.
Highlighting the academy’s purpose, it stated: “The facility will function as a center of excellence, equipped with comprehensive offerings such as turf fields, indoor practice zones, residential accommodations, a gymnasium, physiotherapy and sports medicine support, along with classrooms for academic and life-skill development.”
Currently, the MCA pointed out that female players face the challenge of traveling considerable distances for practice, which the establishment of this academy aims to alleviate.
“Presently, women players endure extensive travel across the city and suburbs for regular practice, leading to fatigue, time loss, and logistical difficulties, especially for those from distant areas,” the letter explained.
“The intended residential academy will significantly ease these challenges by offering centralized training and accommodations, thus allowing players to better focus on their game and personal development.”
