Maxwell Aims for Resurgence in India T20I Return

Maxwell's Comeback: Aiming for Glory in India's T20I Arena

Australian All-Rounder Glenn Maxwell Eyes Return for India T20I Series

Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell is optimistic about recovering in time for the latter stages of the upcoming T20 International series against India, following surgery on his fractured right wrist.

The 36-year-old sustained the injury after being hit on the wrist by a shot from teammate Mitchell Owen during a practice session before the T20I series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.

“I feel having the surgery last week gives me a glimmer of hope to play a part in the India series if I can recover in time,” Maxwell mentioned at the KFC BBL kit launch event. He has been omitted from the initial two matches on October 29 and 31.

Maxwell chose to undergo surgery to expedite his recovery, aiming to be ready for the final three matches scheduled in Hobart (November 2), Gold Coast (November 6), and Brisbane (November 8).

“The sole reason for my surgery was having the choice between missing the series entirely without surgery or having surgery, which gives me a slim possibility of participating,” explained Maxwell. “If not, I’ll be ready for the BBL sooner, and it helps get the rest of my body in shape.”

After having his cast removed, Maxwell will now wear a molded plastic splint to protect his wrist, having received clearance to start moving it. “I met with a hand therapist recently,” he shared. “I’ve been given basic exercises to start strengthening the wrist.” Managing pain while batting remains a primary focus.

Reflecting on the incident, Maxwell admitted he was “unlucky with the position that got hit” and considers his approach to bowling to powerful hitters. “I try to avoid bowling to power hitters like Marcus Stoinis and Mitch Owen,” he said. Maxine is now more cautious while bowling in nets.

In his last T20I performance in August against South Africa, Maxwell scored a match-winning 62 not out off 36 balls. More recently, he achieved a 107 off 82 balls for Victoria in the domestic One-Day Cup against Queensland.

When asked about his T20I future, the cricketer shared that he isn’t looking too far ahead. “I’m focused on the BBL’s first round,” remarked Maxwell. “If I’m still enjoying my cricket by then, I’ll be satisfied.”

Ashwin Joins BBL, Boosting the League’s Appeal

Maxwell expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Big Bash League season, where he will captain the Melbourne Stars. He praised the inclusion of former Indian spinner R. Ashwin, who retired from the IPL in August and signed with Sydney Thunder, marking the first time a capped Indian participates in the BBL.

“It’s exciting news,” Maxwell remarked. “Having world-class players like Ashwin in the BBL is a massive advantage for us. His experience and wisdom will greatly benefit the league and attract more fans,” he added. Ashwin’s participation is anticipated to enhance the league’s quality and popularity.
