Litton’s Heroics Propel Bangladesh to Series-Leveling Triumph in 2nd T20I against Ireland
In a thrilling match, Captain Litton Das’ half-century paved the way for Bangladesh’s victory over Ireland, leveling the series on Saturday. Litton scored 57 off 37 balls, leading Bangladesh to a four-wicket win after chasing down Ireland’s score of 170-6 with a total of 174-6.
The series decider, the third T20, is scheduled for Tuesday. Despite an early setback with opener Tanzid Hasan’s dismissal, Bangladesh maintained control as Litton paired with Parvez Hossain to steady the chase. Together, they added 60 runs, with Parvez contributing 43 before falling to a reverse sweep attempt.
Litton was aided by Saif Hasan, who chipped in with 22 runs. Litton celebrated his 20th T20 half-century by hitting a stunning six off Matthew Humphreys with a slog-sweep, bringing his score to 50 in just 34 balls.
Although Litton’s dismissal prompted a mini-collapse, losing four wickets for 19 runs in 20 balls, Mohammad Saifuddin alleviated the pressure with a six off his first ball. His quick-fire 17 not out from seven balls secured Bangladesh’s win with two balls remaining.
Earlier in the match, Lorcan Tucker anchored Ireland with a solid 41 off 32 balls, supported by Tim Tector’s brisk 38 off 25. After winning the toss, Ireland, led by captain Paul Stirling, made a strong start with Stirling scoring 29 off 14 balls, propelling Ireland to 75 in the first six overs.
However, Bangladesh fought back after Stirling’s dismissal to Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Mahedi Hasan further destabilized Ireland’s innings, taking out the Tector brothers and Ben Calitz in quick succession, finishing with figures of 3-25. Tucker kept Ireland in the game until he was run out by Litton on the final ball.
