Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Kumar Das expressed confidence on Thursday, stating that his team is thoroughly prepared for the forthcoming Asia Cup, which will commence in the UAE on September 9.
Bangladesh secured a 2-0 victory in the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands, with the final game being abandoned due to rain. This marked their third consecutive series win in this format, having previously triumphed over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Litton acknowledged the pre-series camp for laying the groundwork for their success. The team initially held a fitness camp in Dhaka before moving to Sylhet for a skills camp to train on better wickets in preparation for international matches.
“I believe we are well prepared for the Asia Cup,” Litton said following the series win over the Netherlands. “I’ve emphasized from the start that the camp was not just for this series. It was also to ensure our readiness for future series, including the Asia Cup,” he explained.
“I’ve never experienced such an excellent camp. While fitness training can be done in Mirpur, the specific practice we required was only feasible in Sylhet. Overall, this journey has been highly beneficial for us,” he said.
Litton also highlighted the significance of players gaining crucial match experience before the tournament. “Overall, I felt everything was positive,” stated Litton.
“Everyone who had the opportunity to play a match performed well. Only Saifuddin didn’t get a chance to contribute. However, everyone else participated in at least one game,” he noted.
“While practice is important, delivering in matches is even more crucial. Playing matches enhances your skills and improves your game sense,” he remarked.
“Of course, it would have been better if more batters had more opportunities, but what’s important is that we secured convincing victories in the first two games. That’s a promising sign heading into a significant event,” he said.
“The fact that not all our batters were required to bat highlights the strength of our top order. In the Asia Cup, there may be occasions where everyone will need to bat, and that’s fine, but currently, it demonstrates we’re in a positive position,” he added.
Bangladesh will kick off their 2025 Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong on September 11.
