The United Arab Emirates became the last of the 20 teams to qualify for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup after defeating Japan by eight wickets in the Asia-EAP Qualifier held in Al Amerat on Thursday.
Haider Ali’s three wickets for 20 runs and a 70-run opening partnership between Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem facilitated UAE’s chase of 117. This win ensured their qualification alongside Nepal and Oman for next year’s tournament in India and Sri Lanka.
Joining the host nations will be the top seven teams from the 2024 edition: South Africa, Afghanistan, England, Australia, Bangladesh, USA, and West Indies. Additionally, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Ireland have qualified based on their T20I rankings.
From the Americas, Canada secured their spot, while Italy (making a historic debut) and Netherlands advanced from Europe. Namibia and Zimbabwe qualified through the Africa qualifiers, with Asia-EAP concluding their qualification this week.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will continue with a 20-team format similar to the previous tournament held in USA-West Indies. The competition will feature four groups of five teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super 8s, followed by semi-finals and the final.
