Legendary Don Bradman Baggy Green from Iconic India Series Hits Auction

Iconic Don Bradman Baggy Green Cap Headlines Prestigious Auction Event

A rare Baggy Green cap, once worn by the cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman during the 1947/48 series against India, is scheduled for auction next month.

During that series, which was India’s first international cricket tour as an independent nation, Bradman gifted the cap to Indian all-rounder Sriranga Wasudev Sohoni.

Unlike many Baggy Green caps from Bradman’s era, which are preserved in museums or tightly held in private collections, this particular cap has neither been publicly displayed nor offered for sale before.

According to the Australian Associated Press (AAP), it has been kept within the same family for over 75 years.

“This is a genuine piece of cricket history that Sir Donald Bradman personally gifted,” said Lloyds Auctions’ Lee Hames.

“Its uninterrupted family ownership for 75 years and its direct link to ‘The Don’ makes it one of the most significant Bradman-related items to reach auction.”

Bradman-era Test cricketers wore a different cap for each series. This cap will be available at a public auction, attracting international interest from private collectors, museums, institutions, and fans.

Regarded as the greatest batter the game has witnessed, Bradman scored 715 runs in six innings at an incredible average of 178.75 during the 1947/48 Test series, which Australia won 4-0. His achievements included three centuries and a double century.

Bradman, who passed away at the age of 92 in 2001, had an extraordinary Test batting average of 99.94.

Bidding for this cap at Lloyds Auctions will start at one Australian dollar, with the auction closing on January 26.

It is not the first time a Bradman cap from the same India series has been sold; another baggy green from that series fetched Rs 2.63 crore last year.
