Lasith Malinga Joins Sri Lanka Men’s Team as Temporary Fast Bowling Advisor
The Sri Lanka Cricket board has named former pacer Lasith Malinga as the ‘Consultant – Fast Bowling Coach’ for the men’s team. His role is on a short-term basis aimed at assisting the team in preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Malinga began his tenure on December 15 and will continue to provide his expertise until January 25, 2026.
“Malinga will aid in the preparation and development of Sri Lanka’s national fast bowlers as part of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 build-up. Sri Lanka Cricket intends to utilize Malinga’s extensive international experience and acclaimed skills in death bowling, especially in the shortest format of the game, to bolster Sri Lanka’s World Cup preparations,” the statement explained.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, is set to begin on February 7 next year, with the inaugural match taking place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
