Australia aims to maintain its winning momentum as it faces off against England in the second Ashes Test at The Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday.

The home team has won 12 out of the 13 day-night Tests hosted, with its only defeat coming against West Indies at the Gabba in January 2024. Day-night Tests feature a pink ball instead of the traditional red, making it easier to see under floodlights.

Batting can be challenging during the twilight and evening sessions when the pink ball typically swings more, but Australian captain Steve Smith noted that Brisbane’s comparatively hard wicket, unlike the more spongy surface of Adelaide Oval, the usual location for day-night Tests, might provide some advantages for the batters.

“At times the ball can get a little soft, and you might see batsmen playing with confidence at various stages,” Smith stated.

“That’s one thing we need to assess as we head into this game and see how everything unfolds.”

Australia leads the five-Test series 1-0 after securing a two-day victory in Perth.
