Jharkhand’s Multifaceted Marvel: Kushagra Shines in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26

Flintoff Bids Farewell to Northern Superchargers Over Unrecognized Contributions

Kumar Kushagra, a 21-year-old modern cricketer, thrives under pressure, seamlessly balancing multitasking and captaincy without sacrificing his dynamic batting style. This season, he’s been in exceptional form with the bat for Jharkhand in both the Ranji Trophy and limited-overs cricket. Kushagra played a key role in helping Jharkhand secure victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) T20 tournament, amassing 422 runs at an impressive strike rate of 161.88.

Kushagra’s remarkable performance continues in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), where he scored a stellar 105 against Pondicherry following a quick 63 in the opening match against Karnataka. With Ishan Kishan participating in limited matches, Kushagra has adeptly taken on the leadership role, demonstrating maturity and strategic acumen.

“I relish responsibility,” Kushagra commented, adding that he was mentally primed for captaincy, having been forewarned about the role by the association. He views captaincy as an opportunity to enhance player management, instill confidence, and optimize team performance. “Multitasking is standard in cricket now, so it doesn’t faze me,” he said.

During the off-season, Kushagra focused on honing his skills, especially adapting between different formats, with the aid of coach Ratan Kumar. He emphasized the importance of timing and situational adaptation in white-ball cricket. Reflecting on the season, he remarked on the personal and team success achieved so far.

Retained by the Gujarat Titans for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Kushagra aims to translate his domestic success onto the larger stage. He believes Jharkhand’s triumph in the SMAT was a pivotal moment for the team, highlighting their all-round performance. Adopting a match-by-match strategy in the VHT, Kushagra is content with their current gameplay and aspires to make a significant impact in the upcoming IPL season.
