Jemimah’s Triumph: Winning for India, Not Just Proving a Point

"Jemimah's Journey: Championing India Beyond Expectations"

In a memorable performance that will go down in Indian cricket history, Jemimah Rodrigues, batting at No. 3, steered India to a thrilling five-wicket win against Australia in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday.

Chasing a daunting target of 339, Jemimah delivered an outstanding innings, scoring 127 from 134 balls, which secured India’s place in the final.

In her post-match interview, an emotional Jemimah dedicated the victory to her supporters. “It wasn’t about proving a point for me. My focus was purely on winning for India. I just wanted to remain there until the end to take us through,” she remarked.

Jemimah shared that she learned she would be batting at number three just moments before India commenced their chase. Despite the late notice, her goal remained selfless and clear. “I was in the shower and asked the team to inform me. It was only about five minutes before I entered that I found out I would be at three,” she explained.

Her fierce determination was evident in her subdued celebration after reaching her century. “Today was about making India win, not my personal milestones of 50 or 100,” she added.

The 25-year-old batter candidly discussed the hurdles she faced before this pivotal moment. “In the last edition, I was dropped from the World Cup squad. This year, I decided to give it a shot as I was in good form, but circumstances were beyond my control,” she reflected.

Jemimah spoke about the emotional challenges she endured, admitting, “Throughout this tour, I’ve almost cried daily. Mentally, I wasn’t in the best place and was experiencing significant anxiety. Being dropped [against England] was yet another challenge, but I realized I just needed to show up.”

During her high-pressure innings, Jemimah consistently motivated herself, turning to her faith when she felt exhausted. “Towards the end, I kept recalling a scripture from the Bible to regain my energy,” she shared.

Finally, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the supporters at her home ground. “Mumbai has always been special, and I couldn’t have asked for a better setting. I want to thank everyone who cheered and supported us. It really fired me up, so thank you all,” she said.
