IPL 2026: KKR to Part Ways with Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, Says BCCI
The BCCI has instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their squad ahead of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League due to escalating tensions in bilateral relations between the two countries.
KKR secured the 30-year-old left-arm pacer for Rs 9.20 crore, starting from a base price of Rs 2 crore, following an intense bidding competition with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals during last month’s players’ auction.
The BCCI has stated that KKR can select a replacement player if necessary.
“BCCI has requested that Kolkata Knight Riders release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad. They may request a replacement if needed, and the BCCI will permit a replacement player upon request,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia informed PTI on Saturday.
When questioned about the reason for this decision, he responded, “Due to recent developments across the region.” The BCCI has faced increasing pressure over the participation of the Bangladesh cricketer following the recent killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh and India’s concerns regarding the safety of minorities there.
